My Project's Process

T o   S t a r t   M y  P r o j e c t  . . . .

~I began looking up references from the web to help guide me in the right direction on drawing and eventually painting my collage of items. I began by sketching the marines symbol in my sketchbook, and then blowing up that image onto a big sheet of white drawing paper.

~After messing with the proportions of the symbol, I began the process of trying to find the placement for where I want the quote on the page. With my blown up version of the marines symbol, I wrote the quote across the open space just above both the wings on the bird, and then the rest of the quote went underneath each wing. I liked the way it makes you look across the page, but I am leaning towards just keeping the quote in one space on the page.

~Next, I decided to use a black matte board to paint on, with a medium of acrylic paints, and possibly some ink pens for adding the last bits of detail.
I'm currently still in the process of painting, due to the fact that I began using a certain kind of paint, and wanted to keep the same consistency throughout the painting. I'm having a difficult time with the process of blending the colors and getting the same tone over the first layer of the painting.
