PROJECT 2 REFLECTION

For this project, I originally had the idea of messing with watercolors, but thought that taking a few steps back and working with colored pencils would help my painting technique. I got my inspiration from Georgia O'keefe, and thought that doing the opposite of her bright and vivid colors, would give a different look into that style. I decided to use a black matte board, and color pencils for my medium. I worked mainly with a white crayola pencil, then added the finishing touches with a more advanced colored pencil. I really enjoyed working with proportions on the deer skull, and really liked focusing on light sources. The shading gave me a challenge, but I am truly proud of my final piece. I'm sure some may think that more detail in the shading would be beneficial, but I purposely left some places more vivid, to show my own sense of style.

#2 Painting Project

Cow Skull Project Inspirations

~For this project, I was inspired by Georgia O'keefe's paintings of cow skulls, with desert landscapes and flower accents. I really enjoy the composition and placements O'keefe uses in each of her paintings. For the beginning of my project, I was really wanting to focus on using watercolor paints, but think I might go with more of a color pencil, or charcoal route. Here are a few of the paintings that inspired me.

My Final Painting

                 Painting Outcome

~For my painting, I used acrylics, ink pens, and colored pencils. I like the final piece, but wish it turned out possibly more realistic and detailed. The painting was very monochromatic, and lacked detail with color variations in the acrylics portion of my painting. I am not very talented with using acrylics, so I regret not using watercolors, or more colored pencils. I liked the original idea of painting on a black board, but think a white board might've turned out a bit better.
